Yamaha EF6300iSDE Review: Quiet But Expensive Inverter Generator

Disclosure: I get commissions for purchases made through links in posts.

The Yamaha EF6300iSDE is a powerful inverter generator that puts out pure sine wave electricity, which is safe for sensitive equipment. Its 357cc gasoline engine and 120V/240V outputs provide plenty of power for a wide variety of recreational applications.

Yamaha EF6300iSDE: Summary

The EF6300iSDE has a maximum surge wattage of 6300, although its rated running wattage is 5500 watts. It has an internal battery with an electric starter for easy starting and stopping. An oil warning system prevents the engine from ever running without oil in the pan.

The Yamaha EF6300iSDE is a big and heavy inverter generator: it weighs 200 pounds. You definitely need extra help to load or unload it. It is too heavy for a single person to carry. Even so, it has four small wheels that make it easier to drag on a smooth surface.

The EF6300iSDE inverter generator is surprisingly quiet for its engine size. Its specifications say that it operates at about 64 decibels. It has been designed with noise blocking features to block noise and be as quiet as possible.

The Yamaha EF6300iSDE seems to be a fuel efficient, low-maintenance, reliable, powerful, gas powered inverter generator. It can be used for your RV and other outdoor activities. However, it is a heavy and expensive generator with a suggested retail price of over $4000 (check price on Amazon).

What is the size of its fuel tank?

It has a 4.5-gallon fuel tank. This fuel capacity gives it a run time of about 13 hours at a quarter load. We do not know how long it might actually run at its maximum rated load of 5500 watts. We guess it might run for a few hours under a heavy load.

Does it have remote start?

The Yamaha EF6300iSDE does not ship with a remote starter. Nonetheless, you can buy a Yamaha remote start kit separately and install it. The optional wireless remote can be used from a distance of up to 66 feet away.

Can it run on propane or natural gas?

It is possible to convert the Yamaha EF6300iSDE to use these alternative fuel sources. However, we do not know if this might void the warranty. A few owners have bought it with a tri-fuel conversion kit installed and use it for home backup power. However, you need to keep its internal battery charged so that you can start the generator in an emergency (it does not have a recoil starter).

Can it power an air conditioner?

Yes, it probably has enough starting and running watts to power a 15000 BTU air conditioner. Its inverter system also makes it a safe power source for other appliances such as refrigerators, microwaves, computers and televisions.

Yamaha EF6300iSDE vs. Honda EU7000iS

The obvious difference is the maximum surge watts: the Yamaha has 6300 watts and the Honda has 7000 watts. The rated AC power output is the same at 5500 watts. Therefore, the Honda EU7000iS has more surge power.

The Honda EU7000iS has a recoil starter, which might be useful if the internal battery has lost its charge, and you need to start the generator. It is nice to have the recoil pull-start as a backup starting system. In contrast to the Honda, the Yamaha EF6300iSDE only has the electric starter.

The Yamaha EF6300iSDE engine uses a carburetor, but the Honda EU7000iS has an electronic fuel injection system. The fuel injection makes the Honda generator more fuel efficient and easier to start. Even so, the Yamaha generator does have an automatic choke.

The run time specifications for the Yamaha EF6300iSDE is 13.3 hours at 1/4 load. The Honda EU7000iS has a slightly larger 5.1 gallon fuel tank, which gives it a stated run time of 18 hours at 1/4 load!

Dragging and turning the Yamaha generator from left to right on its four rigid wheels might be somewhat difficult. The Honda EU7000iS has a better wheel kit system with two large wheels and two handles. This makes the Honda 7000W generator easier to turn and move around. This is good because the Honda EU7000iS is 61 pounds heavier than the Yamaha.

It seems like the Honda EU7000iS has a better layout when it comes to oil maintenance. It is easier to drain the oil and fill up the pan with the Honda. You definitely need a flexible oil funnel if you want to reach and fill up the oil pan of the Yamaha EF6300iSDE generator. You also need a special spark plug socket wrench from Yamaha in order to reach and remove the spark plug.

Yamaha EF6300iSDE: Verdict

We would probably pay a few hundred dollars more and buy the Honda EU7000iS. It has fuel injection, it is more fuel efficient, it has a better wheel kit, it provides up to 7000 starting watts, it has a recoil starter as a backup, and it seems easier to maintain.

Nevertheless, this does not mean that the Yamaha EF6300iSDE is not worth consideration. It is a powerful, reliable, quiet but expensive inverter generator with an electric starter. It might still be worth the money if you can get it at a good price (buy it on Amazon).
