Small portable power sources with lithium-ion batteries are useful for recharging phones, tablets and cameras in an emergency or while camping outdoors. I take a look at such a portable power source: the Webetop 155Wh 42000mAh power station.
Webetop 155Wh: Outlets
This portable power station has a power panel with two 110-volt AC outputs, three 12-volt DC ports and three 5-volt USB ports.
The AC port can be used for powering a device that uses 100 watts or less such as a television, DVD player, desktop fan or laptop computer.
The DC ports and the included cigarette lighter adapter might be useful for automotive devices such as a car refrigerator or car vacuum.
The USB ports are great for recharging phones, tablets and cameras. The limited capacity of the battery makes it better suited for recharging small digital devices than for powering AC devices.
How To Recharge The Battery
The 42000mAh lithium-ion battery can be recharged from three different sources. You can recharge it from a wall outlet with the included power adapter which will take about 8 hours. You might also charge it with the included car charger. The battery can be recharged with a solar panel, but this is not included in the box. You need to buy a 13V-24V solar panel to do this. The battery has a life cycle of more than 500 charges.
Which solar panel might work?
You have to use a 13V-24V solar panel with a MC4 connector. A solar panel is not included with the power station. You have to buy both the solar panel and the MC4 solar charging cable separately. The solar panel should have an output of at least 18 watts or more, but it should not exceed 150 watts.
For example, a 50-watt solar panel might need about 9 hours of sunlight to fully recharge the battery. A 100-watt 18V solar panel would probably be faster and therefore a more practical choice.
Will it power a 50W fan?
Yes, but not for very long. You can do a quick calculation to determine how long a 50-watt fan will work with this 155Wh power source. Take the 155 watts, divide it by 50 watts. This equals a run time of only 3.1 hours.
Suitable for a CPAP machine?
The battery capacity is a bit small for powering a CPAP machine during a long night. However, if you turn off the CPAP machine’s humidifier it might last for one night. The battery might even last for two nights if you remove the humidifier and use a DC power adapter with the CPAP machine.
Nonetheless, check the power requirements of your specific CPAP machine and calculate how long a 155Wh battery power source might last. You certainly do not want the CPAP machine to lose power during the darkest hours of the night. If you are uncertain, then you should get a bigger power source with more battery capacity. For example, the Rockpals RP300W portable power station has a 280Wh lithium battery.
Webetop 155Wh: Conclusion
This is a small and lightweight portable battery power source: it weighs only 3.5 pounds! It has compact dimensions and is only 6.73 inches tall, 3.54 inches wide and 7.67 inches long. It really takes up very little space. You can keep all the phones and tablets charged during a camping trip. It might even fit into a backpack. Other notable features are the LED flashlight (with a blink mode) and the battery indicator.
I have seen portable power sources that look suspiciously similar to the Webetop 155Wh. For example, the AIMTOM 155Wh portable solar generator looks exactly the same, except for the different brand name on its side. It seems to have the same specifications, dimensions and outlets. Furthermore, the Serenelife 155Wh portable power station also looks the same except for its grey and black color scheme. So, the same basic power station might be available under different brand names.
In conclusion, the Webetop 155Wh portable power station is a good tool to have for camping trips or around the house (view product on Amazon).
